Hi guys.

Was wondering if anybody knew of any software that would be able to separate the main object of a photo
from the background? Basically i want to be able to take pictures of cars at shows etc and then be able to erase the background automatically?

would Photoshop be able to do this?

Sorry if its a daft question but thought it worth a try.

Thanks for any help thumbup .

Yes Photoshop will allow you to select the object and cut it from the background.

Certainly. Not automatically though and depending on the complexity of the background it could take a bit of time.

I saw a demo of Office 2010 doing this recently (I kid you not...) - it's quite cool tech actually. Maybe worth a try with the beta:

Photoshop Elements 8 "magic wand" or "quick selection" can do it very quickly if well defined difference between car and background or "lasso tool" if need manual selection. Not sure if there is a free software, I think others have mentioned "Gimp" software but tbh not sure I want Google storing my data that says I searched for "Gimp" wink

Mask Pro or Cut it Out by OnOne software are possibly the easiest, but you'd need to bear in mind that whapping a car onto say a layered black background, you'll have shot the car with ambient lighting, so any reflections, shadows, highlights etc, may not suit the scene you pop it into

You could try FotoFlexer:

I've used it for just this job in the past.
