Donnie Darko...please explain
Discussion
watched this the other day, and I just don't get it...ok I know I'm a retard but could someone please try and explain it to me.
1. does he die when the engine falls on the house?
2. what's the bit with the old lady got to do with her writing the book and it's concequences to the actual storyline?
3. and I just don't get those worm type things that emit from Donnie
is it me or is this film strange?

i found a guide to it somewhere.
the book is related to Donnie somehow, but it isn't mentioned too much in the first film, but is covered a bit more in S.Darko.
The general idea was some sort of time rift occurred, which set about the end of the universe which donnie had to set right (including dying from the falling engine) to avert the disaster

the book is where all the little cut scenes about manipulated dead stem from, and i think it turns out to be written by the mother of a bloke taking the same role as Donnie in s.Darko, where s.Darko (Samantha, his sister) now takes over the role of the manipulated dead (which was frank the bunny in the first film)
I trust that makes everything crystal clear...

so donny was in fact quite sane, and was/did advert the time rift and subsequent end of the world...ok get that bit
like in Jacob's Ladder (good analogy) he decided to die and save the world
the book/book lady bit is more apparent in the next instalment...check
but what's with those wormy things?
after reading the article....ahhh a repeated time loop and the worms represent a shift in time to the PU

they seemed to be one of two different things, either subconscious will or maybe a subconscious guide, or some sort of future echo showing him what he was about to do.
i can't quite remember exactly what, i have a feeling i had interpreted them one way, and halfway through the film they did something that made me change my mind.
