Right then, I'm after a home Espresso machine, looking to spend around £100, will this get me anything worth having or not at all?

Any recomendation for a machine, around this price would be excellent. Tried Google but no idea what I'm looking for.

Cheers,

Cramman.

At that price point, Nespresso (what I have and all who try it are converted) or the little stove-top pot.

+1

Received this one (in grey) at Xmas and love it. The coffee is delicious and is easily as good as Costa, Starbucks etc.

50 capsules cost £16 from the website, bargain...ish!

Make sure you get a milk frother thing if you like capucinno.

I'm told that every Italian household has the little stove-top pot, however for convenience I maintain that you can't beat Nespresso.

seriously, anything else is just f**king about:

I've never had coffee from a fancy machine that beats what you get out of one of these.

and their £20.

Don't buy one of these:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0021CY4AW?ie=U...

I bought one for my wife and it blew up after a week, so they exchanged it and the new one lasted 3 months, so they exchanged it and it lasted 2 months, so I took a refund.

That's hardly a ringing endorsement...

You can get a factory reconditioned Gaggia Cubika for £99 from their on-line factory shop.
That has to be a bargain right?

Any experiences?

Hi.

Thanks for all the replies, seems like my ideas of being able to buy a half decent, kitchen gadget is out of the window then.

I will check out the options here, the pod type things never really appealed but I'll consider it.

Any info on the reconditioned Gaggia's also appreciated. Little disappointed now, over Christmas, currys were selling a small Gaggia for 100 notes, may have been crap tho.

Also, I'm off to check out the stove top jobbies and see how they work, no idea here.

What sort of price do half decent automatic coffe machines start from? And, ideas?

I got a stove top coffee pot thingy for christmas. It's truly superb. I'm currently working my way through a pack of ground old black java. The shop ground it specially for the stove top for me too.

Bloody stunning.

Do not underestimate what it makes either. It is possible to think "Ohh, I like a nice big mug, so I'll buy a big one". You will have palpitations if you do. biggrin

Get a 9 cup one. The others are a bit small.

Mine is a 'two cupper'. Seriously, that's fine for one person.

I have a 3 cup stove top pot. It fills a decent size mug just fine. The rest of my family have machines of one form or another and they all come round to my place for "proper" coffee...

It all depends on how much you're willing to spend, but for convenience and ease of use, you can't go wrong with the Delonghi Magnifica bean-to-cup range. The machines start at approximately £300 and allow you to either use fresh beans via the built-in adjustable grinder or ground coffee smile

http://www.seriousaboutcoffee.com/product.php?cat=...

The majority of options are adjustable via the front panel, so you can tailor every aspect of the coffee making process to your needs.

I have one from the Perfecta range, so it has a few more toys to play with, but it makes a fantastic coffee and the steamer creates a lovely, smooth froth! One of my best purchases biggrin I don't think you'll be disappointed if you're serious about coffee.

However there might be other automatic machines available for less that others know of thumbup

I got one of those and it was like new.

Excellent machine still 3 years later of daily use.

Brother bought one also after seeing mine and is very pleased with it also.

Recommended.

Edited to add that quote on Costa, Starbucks PMSL biggrin

The bottom line is that stove top machines are simple. Their mark up isn't that much. They can't be that good, otherwise people wouldn't buy the gucci ones.

Seriously a stove top is all you need. I have 2 "Coffee Octagons" a biggun and a smaller one. They come camping and allsorts. Truly awesome things.

I wouldn't even consider buying anything else. Grinder, Octagon, done.

I agree they are good things.

We have an oil fired aga type range cooker so not very practical as you have to wait for the plate to heat up and I like mucking about with machines!

We have taken one camping and also cafetier, the looks you get are pretty amusing from all the tea drinkers!
