Temporary Car Insurance
Discussion
Hi all, wondering if you could help me.
My brother in law has been very kind enough to lend me his Audi R8 for a weekend of driving in Wales with some guys on here and I was wondering if anybody could recommend me a temporary car insurance company to cover me for four days.
My B.I.L has mentioned that he can look into adding me onto his own insurance policy but I know what he is like and he will not let me pay him back. I think it's only fair I should pay so I am looking to get some quotes.
Most of the companies (RAC, Aviva etc) I have tried state that I need to declare that the market value of the car does not exceed £50,000 but I know he paid almost twice that when he bought the car brand new in 2007.
So, can anyone recommend a temp car insurance company that would be willing to cover me in the UK? I am 36 years old with an SP30 in 2005 and an SP50 in 2006.
Thanks in advance for your replies.

If your BIL still owns the car, I am not sure that you can take out your own policy on it as the car would then have two policies on it at the same time. I am no expert, but casting my mind back to my Insurance law module at Uni (LOL) I am not sure that you have an insurable interest in the car. The easiest/only way may be to be added to his policy.
I am not sure this is correct, but best of luck...

that can't be right surely? All the short term insurance sites i've been on seem to ask you what the purpose of getting the insurance is, and all seem to have options like "borrowing car" or "test drive" where the car will be insured by someone else alreadyI am not sure this is correct, but best of luck...

Cheers guys, I rang Ben and he told me that the only way to be covered would be as an additional person on my brother in laws own policy as the same car cannot be insured under two different policies. Thanks for all your replies
Hi
I wondered if there were any other companies that could be recommended, I have been offered the use of a Ferrari 360 for the weekend.
The reason being is that my TVR Griffith 500 that I owned for 7 hours was driven into the back off by a taxi driver… it is all sorted in that he has admitted liability was insured etc but now just going through the slow process of getting it repaired.
Very helpfully  the garage that is doing it (Central Sportcars) happen to have some loan cars for use and one of them is the above, and he is happy for me to borrow it next weekend, the only proviso is that I need to insure it myself …
I have contacted my own insurance for the TVR who said no and gave a few very thin reasons why… So I really don’t want to miss this opportunity to drive one, and at least give my rather large and very black cloud a silver ( or red) lining while I am waiting for my car to be fixed.
So any other companies that people know of and would recommend would be really appreciated.
Thanks for your help
