I try to keep my car pretty clean and to be fair quite enjoy giving it a good scrub.
My wheels currently look like this:

and i would like to keep them that way! the middle is powdercoated so i use normal wheel cleaner on that. The rim part is polished steel and can loose its shine quickly as a result. I use purple metal polish on this and it works a treat.
What should i do to keep them this way? is there an aftercoat that will preserve this finish all over the wheel? i will sometimes wax the wheel after i have polished and cleaned it but i was wondering if there was anything specific out there that will seal of all the work iv done from all the s
t on the roads.
Regards
Jon

A decent sealant before waxing will help keep the dirt and grime away. However nothing beats regular washing with a PH neutral wheel cleaner and then topping off every month or so with some more dedicated wheel wax. What products are you currently using and how hard do you drive your car?
Thanks for the response.
the car gets driven. At least a couple of times a week... dependant on weather. I try not to use it in the rain but that can be dificult in this country! and the car has been out in the snow lateley.. been caught out once or twice!
As mentioned i currently just wash the wheel centres with Autoglym wheel cleaner then rinse this off then give them a good rub down to remove the grime and dry of. The rims i polish with purple metal polish and buff off. After this i will usualy just use some standard Autoglym bodywork shampoo & Conditioner stuff to cover up the hard work and hopefuly offer some protection.
I have recently just tried some of the autoglym alloy wheel seal which is that white stuff you spray on them buff of to protect the wheel. Looks good thus far but im not sure if this will affect the polished steel part of the rim. The product is described as "alloy" wheel seal but makes no reference to PH. Is there a better or more specific procedure that i should be following?
once again thank you for the assistance

There are a variety of products available for cleaning your wheels, from the somewhat aggressive through to the very mild.
My two personal favourites are Dodo Juice Mellow Yellow which is great as a gentle surface cleaner if your wheels are in good condition, or Valet Pro Bilberry Wheel cleaner which is mixed with water depending upon the strength required, sprayed onto the wheels and then rinsed off or aggitated.
To seal the wheels I like to use FinishKare 1000P Hi-Temp Sealant and to top off I add a coat or two of Swissvax Autobahn Wheel Wax or some Poorboys Wheel wax.
I hope that this helps with your purchases and there are some top websites available to guide you along regarding best products for the job.
