I'm moving abroad quite soon and will need to cancel my phone contract with O2. It would be nice to have a PAYG phone for occasional trips back to the UK and I'd like to keep my existing number if I can.

Does anyone know if this is possible? smile

Worked when I owed from contract O2 to Vodafone PAYG. Just ask for a PAC from O2.

Remember a PAYG SIM has a time limit on it - you need to make a call every three months to keep it live.

I suspect it might depend how long you have had your phone. my wife has had a payg phone on orange for 15 years or so, when we went to canada 2 years ago she just put it in a drawer and didnt use it - Came back this year and charged it up, she found there was still a few quid credit on it(after two years of no use!) and has continued to top it up ever since. I had a similar experience, but when I came over on a trip i lost the orange phone (on the way to airport) Any hoo the next time i was in the uk I bought a cheap phone with some credits attached, but the next time I wanted to use it the sim was out of date

Geoff, totally. Remember to check how long you can leave the PAYG sim for before its viewed as dead. Phone companies must give you a PAC code on request so very easy to move your number.
