well i best post now.
it looks like i will not be taking part in reading half marthon this year and im gutted about it. as many of you know during a certain night out in reading and after a lot of shots last july i decided that i need to get fit and that doing it with a some PH SAS's was the way to do it.

well the weekend before last i was doing my 12k training run and everything seemed ok till the following morning my back hurt like hell.
so i decided to take it easy for the coming week as i had goring 10k coming up the following weekend. last weekend with chris (speckle) and nancy (tigertwo)
i am happy to say i completed the run with the aid of nancy at my side to keep me going.

I finished in 1h45mins ish which for me was a personel best but soon after finishing my back really started to hurt but again thought o well just a bit stiff my body aint used to all this properly and so on monday i chilled and pottered about. but by tuesday i was in agony i went to my dr who booked me into an osteopath near me that i could get to that day.

The news was bad i have severly damaged some nerves and come close to slipping a disk. so now have to rest up for 2 months and take it easy starting my excersise from scratch.

just this time 9 stone ligher than when i first started smile.

but this is also a bit of a boost for support if you are free on sunday the 21st of march please come along to the reading half marathon and support nancy and chris. smile

and i shall be looking to see what other runs i can do who knows maybe next year il be doing the london marathon lol.

The Start

The Finish line in sight = BEER smile

Me aka the real run fat boy run smile lol

Nancy hot on my heels

Chris in the dayglow yellow number smile with PH Hat

Nick, I am truly gutted for you mate as I know how hard you have worked and how much you were looking forward to crossing the finishing line on 21st! Your hard work has not been in vain though, you have done brilliantly and I know I speak for everyone when I say how inspirational it has been to follow your progress! There will be plenty of other races when you're fully recovered and I have no doubt you will have no problem rising to the challenge - you proved that on Sunday and then some!!

Right, now it is my turn to jump on the injury bandwagon frown

I'm currently suffering from chronic achilles tendonitis. I'm seeing a sports physio and there is currently a questionmark over whether or not I'll be able to run the Reading half either - I certainly can't do much in the way of training between now and 21st. I would be running the risk of rupturing the tendon apparently, which doesn't sound like much fun at all.

I haven't decided 100% yet and may well participate anyway, even if I have to walk round the course!

But, there is a chance that the SAS running team debut may well have to be postponed until later in the summer (apart from Nancy of course, who is a running machine!!) If I'm not running at Reading, I will certainly be cheering her over the line! smile

I tell you what Nick, you can see in those photos how much weight you've lost.
It's truly amazing how much you've achieved in the last six month, you should be VERY proud of yourself.

Sorry to hear you're both injured, but if you fancy joining me on mountain bikes sometime (i have bad knees so can't run!) then let me know smile

Hi Nick. Great work with the running man, you can see you're looking great and keep going in that direction and you'll be unrecognisable (in a good way!).

Really sorry to hear that you've had a few problems with running - it's not supposed to be the best thing for backs and knees as you're constantly compressing and twisting them. Are you sure there aren't any other activities you can do in the mean time such as riding an exercise (or a real) bike? Hope this doesn't hurt your chances too much, keep it up!

Couldn't agree with you more.

Top work Nick, don't let this injury get you down.

I'll probably take you up on that over the summer anyway Pete, might need a new bike though, the old one has seen better days...

Nick you've done an amazing job and don't let this dishearten you, rest and get up to strength then you can carry on. You are a real inspiration, I've started going to the gym every day too now and hoping to chuck away a couple of stone! I can't beleive how well you have done and how well you have stuck at it, real will power going there!!

Quick bump to say we did it!!

Both Nancy & I ran the Reading half marathon this morning, as initially arranged surrounded by drunken SAS members, standing by a loch (or was it the sea?) in Scotland, pint in one hand, marlboro in the other!!

Not sure I ever believed at the time I would actually manage to do it! However far you may think 13.1 miles is....trust me, it is much further!!!

I am so gutted that Nick & Dave couldn't take part as we were all in this together from the start! Maybe next year guys, when you're both back to full health. I hope you feel I represented you well enough.

Well done mate, I saw you coming into the stadium. It was my 4th Reading half and it never really gets much easier. It was really warm today too which didnt help.

Hope you are enjoying a well earned beer or two (I know I am)

Sorry I didn't see you, my vision was quite blinkered by the stadium!! It was much warmer than I had expected, I was definitely over-dressed for the occasion which didn't help! I went off too fast too which I am told is a classic beginners mistake!!

I did enjoy a few beers (for the first time this year actually!!) and am now enjoying a mild hangover too smile

Who knows, maybe there will be a bunch of us running next year....
