I've just accepted a new job which i have decided i want to make a career out of, however they want me to start two weeks on monday and in my current job im contracted to leave at least 4 weeks notice, is there any way i can get around this?

what would happen if i stuck a note in giving two weeks resignation instead of 4?

any help appreciated!

What's your relationship like with your current employer? They may be prepared to waive your notice period or at least reduce it. Worth asking, what have you got to lose?

Essentially you would be in breach of contract and your current employer could penalise your final salary for the breach e.g. could deduct (the second) 2 weeks pay that you didn't work from your final pay run.
Most Companies have a clause that say annual leave cannot be used to reduce notice periods, however, most reasonable employers would allow you to come to a mutually-acceptable agreement as long as you finish projects etc before you go. My advice? Talk to your current employer.

is this a chnage of Employer or a change of career, by that I mean is there any competition between your current employer and you future employer? If there is even the slightest hint of competition they will enforce as much delay as possible. If not is there any possibility of negotiating to 3 weeks from both of them? if they want you they may be flexible and being honest and sticking to your current contract could stand you in good stead for the job.
