Hi Guys,

since I've used this trip as my excuse for delay in posting the results of the February comp I thought I'd share some of my more successful shots from the trip.

Have a look here wink

Would love some comments and criticisms guys.

Thanks in advance.

Craig.

Whereabouts did you take them? We're about to start our next trip out in very late December.

Since we only had a short time (just over 10days) we stayed in the South Island. Most of the 7 shots on my blog were shot on the West Coast near Haast or around Wanaka.

What's your itinerary?

We're starting to plan now (found a use for Google Wave), this'll be my fifth time since I go to visit family in Auckland. We have five weeks total, three on the south. I've been almost everywhere, we'll probably spend longer in certain places this time (Stewart Island, Wanaka, Mt Cook) instead of zooming all over the place but will still have 6-7 nights free. I quite fancy a night on Gillespies Beach if the weather holds smile

Your photos look good. I'll be trying to upgrade to a D700 but it's starting to look unlikely unless Nikon do indeed discontinue it and there's a bargain to be had frown Mt Cook is great for astro, and on a clear night I imagine Gillespies Beach will be fantastic with the southern alps in the distance.

No Alps but this is Gillespies Beach - one step on from Lake Matheson:

Bretahtaking place.

Agreed, was there briefly on a trip down the west coast in 2004. Weather was perfect, but ideally one needs to be there during sunset/sunrise as is always the case with landscapes. I missed Lake Matheson that time but will be sure to go this time, considering a night at Fox after a night at Hoki just for that.

If the weather is good on the day (it's the west coast after all!) I'll try to get there for sunrise over the alps.

I agree completely we did stop at Gillespie's beach - we had parked the van up, grabbed a cold one from the fridge and headed down the path to the beach. We didn't bother to read the notice board that pointed out that there were 2 paths, a 2min walk to the beach or a 30min walk to an old gold mining pit. Subsequently after 30min of walking in the baking heat we emerged onto the sand. It was one of those stop and stare in silence moments.

Didn't take the camera thought!

IIRC the bungalow on the left (just about where Craig went right instead of straight on) is a B&B.

I never cease to be amazed how Brits can independently travel 12,000 miles and yet end up within yards of the same spot spin
