What camera

hello all i have been wanting to get into photography for a long time now, taking pictures of drag racing and stuff like that and I don't know which way to go.
somebody I work with suggested a sony but i had a play with one in currys and I found it far to small for my hands, I have got my heart set on a nikon for some reason lol, is it worth getting a D2x because you can pick one up for about £550 second hand or going for somthing new like a d5000.

You've got two extremes there, an old pro camera and a new entry-level camera.

I'd suggest you head for somewhere in the middle, a D200 or D300. You'll get better tech than the D2X and more control/options than a D5000.

D300 if you can find one used is a super camera. That or a 40D or something.

I'd avoid the D2X - They do have a 'shelf life' (I have one and it's a bit frail).
