Anyone read this months GT purley Pap? There is a feature on a supercharged 996 from the US they clame +120BHP and lots of low end gain.As the late 996 market has gone soft and I dont realy need to sell mine what are your thoughts on such a project for a fast road car?? Should I do this to a car with 2 years factory warranty? what other componants need an upgrade if any (as it is a C4S it has Turbo brakes and suspension but I think a normal clutch?)
any thoughts or views appreciated??

Just by chance we are building one as well but using an Eaton positive displacement (Rootes) type blower, expected to post a 100bhp gain at the tyre with a lot more torque available from 2000rpm upwards. I have the car and the blower in the shop, just waiting on the mounting bracket arriving from the machinists. This package is using an air-water-air charge cooler system and all fits under a stock engine lid. Expected UK price is £7500 fitted, watch this space.

Thanks Colin The article in GT magazine talked of a bolt on conversion with no perminant mods is this the case with your conversion? will the normal clutch on a C4S be able to cope?
I assume the PCGB engine warranty will be void what about the rest of the car??
I like the Idea of 420 bhp for that cost how do you think the delivery will compare to a turbo or x50
Has anyone on hear got a supercharged car ??

Hmmmmm

According to Porsche website:

C4S weighs 1495kg
Turbo weighs 1595kg

Add a Ninemiester SC for £7500 yields

C4S SC 280bhp/tonne
Turbo 264bhp/tonne
X50 283bhp/tonne

If the C4S already has the suspension and brakes from the Turbo, where does the extra 100kg come from?

I think the extra 100kg comes from the fact they have different running gear as in GT1 based engine and transmission as opposed to the regular 320bhp lump.

The thing to consider is that for £65k you can make a supercharged 2002 C4S,,,yet you will have to spend £10k more for a 2002 TT.

Paul is right the C4s does not have the split GT1 block as a base but does that ad to the weight? part of the extra may be from the uprated cluch & electric rear spoiler? any more thoughts?
Also will my swichable (loud)sports exhaust rob me of BHP?
Im getting into this idea!and yes it is pure testostarone

First of all although I will describe this conversion as a "kit", because of the packaging requirements it is definitely not possible to fit it at home, it will take us around 30 hours once we get up to speed.
The package does indeed fit onto an entirely standard engine, no mods are required whatsoever and it runs with the standard ecu.
The car is going to be radically different to drive in comparison with either the Vortec kit featured in GTPP or the turbo, since the Eaton blower (the new generation 4 type) produces pounds of boost from 2000rpm upwards, so expect a flat line torque curve from idle to red line, in mathematical terms this engine will have a much greater area under the power curve than either the turbo or X50, in other words it will be faster off the matrk and quicker when accelerating at less than ideal engine speeds. What I mean is that it will accelerate just as fast in 4th, 5th or 6th at 70mph since the torque available at the differing engine revs will be the same. Top speed will probably no be as fast due to the Turbos greater power at the very top of the range.
Watch this space, you will hear about it first, for sure.
