1.5 TB Ext HDD Samsung vs Freecom
Discussion
Any advice on which to go for, Samsung Story Station or Freecom XS?
The Samsung is an older version with only USB 2.0 and the Freecom is as pictured. Anyone have any user comments on these?

No idea what drive Freecom have chosen to go with, but I do like the Samsung drives - very quiet and reliable, even though their TV's are not viewed in similarly favourable light.
I'm running a Samsung EIDE drive in an old FireWire enclosure - must be 6 years at least - and not one bit of jip from it in all that time.
It's permanently connected for iTunes library, and other storage, but it still spins up and down on request, and emits hardly any noise at all.
Regards the two enclosures - I noticed the Freecom one has reviewed comments employed, talking about how "strokable" it is - given that it's a 3.5" drive, which can't be bus powered via the connecting cable, then I imagine in most circumstances it'll be plugged into the mains, and left in situ, so the handling aspect as you carry it from location to location is all but null and void.
Besides, given I suspect I know what the material is, heat retention is going to be higher, which won't help the bridgeboard electronics nor the drive itself.
Whilst the Samsung Story's on/off/LED underlight switch is a tad grandiose, it is functional and handier than reaching round the back to find the rocker switch some employ (a lot don't have any on/off switch - just the PSU connector and the various protocol ports), and being aluminium, will provide better heat dissipation if you're doing a lot of large file transfers or video encoding.
So, if it were me, I'd opt for the Samsung for very good reasons, and previous reliability experience.
