iTunes after HD Crash !
Discussion
Just had a disc die and had to rebuild. Installed iTunes and connected my 64gb ipod and it's saying no ipod is synced with another itunes library do I want to erase it and sync with this one !!
WTF !! What happens now ? If I say yes then do I lose all the content i've purchased on my ipod ?

OK. All my non ipod music is safely backed up on multiple disks so thats OK. I probably have around £50 worth of apps and music purchased through iTunes.
Connect ipod and say no to sync or anything else for that matter. Copy all purchased content to PC ( file - transfer purchases to pc ).
Sync and erase ipod then re-sync will copy purchased items back to ipod. Point itunes at your music folder on pc and then do another sync when the library has re built.

Fair enough, I had all my tunes saved on a backup HD but didn't want the hassle of copying everything over. I thought it would be nice and simple if I could copy everything from my ipod to iTunes but it doesn't work like that does it.
Hassle? It's a hassle to right click on a folder, select copy, then go to the new location, and right click , then selecting paste?I'd love to know what constitutes an easy life, if you're thinking that's hassle!
And judging by your latter comment, you really haven't thought through your argument about it being a hassle too well, have you?
Of course you want a simple tickbox to enable, but that ain't going to happen due to how Apple has had to play nice with the providers of the songs you (may) buy from the iTunes Store, (which only until relatively recently, were all DRM'd) and limit you from having 5 iPods/iPhones/Mac's/PC's which can make use of it simultaneously.
It's one thing to have a backup of the songs/movies/TV shows/iApps, but it's also worth having a copy of the other files in the installed default iTunes location too.
Doing so means you only need to download iTunes (if you don't bother to keep the package), then replace those files with the default ones written, and copy the songs folder. Relaunch iTunes, and you're good to go.
