Slimming World Consultants?
Discussion
Probably better in the business forums, but I want to get some replies...
I've seen some interesting discussion on here recently about Weight Watchers consultants, and was wondering if anyone knew anyone, or was themselves a consultant for Slimming World?
My girlfriend really wants to do it but I have no idea how viable it is considering I don't know anyone myself who does it, so I thought I'd throw a question out here
Any info anyone could provide would be most useful

Tell her not to bother wasting her time, my ex used to do this for Fatties Get Thin or some other slimming company. they have to set up so many "classes" in the area, least she will need is 10 to make any sort of living from it.
The company in charge, in this case, slimming world will then give her a trial period to get members numbers built up and if they don't build up they will close the class. My ex ended up running 4 classes and almost went bankrupt because of them (not slimming world), she had at least 7 people in each class but they still shut them down after 3-5 month as it was not what they thought was profitable.
One other thing is, you have to set your classes up, find out where halls are that you can give talks, distribute leaflets etc etc etc. Many a freezing cold night I spent wondering the streets delivering flyers FOR f
k ALL to try and help her. DON'T do it.
I feel slightly dirty and somewhat homosexual that I know that about this subject.

My wife lost weight with Slimming World.
The only attraction I can see of being a "consultant" is that you can do it as an additional job in the evenings.
Oh dear. Just a tiny little insy liddle bit, maybe?

Seriously though - I know someone who did it and it cost her a fortune and ran her ragged so my advice would be, do the diet but don't try and make a living out of it unless you are prepared for it to run your life and all your energy and time!
I was a Slimming World consultant about 15 years ago. I lost three stone on the diet, thought it was great and became a consultant. Things may have changed since then, but I'll tell you my experience anyway.Seriously though - I know someone who did it and it cost her a fortune and ran her ragged so my advice would be, do the diet but don't try and make a living out of it unless you are prepared for it to run your life and all your energy and time!
As someone else has said, you have to find and pay for your won venue, which is obviously the first thing to come out of any meetings you hold, so you have to rely on having a LOT Of members in the class to pay for that first of all.
NOTHING is free. You hve to pay for the books, food products, etc, and I think you even have to pay for the leaflets to do leaflets drops in your area to get members to the classes.... If I remember rightly, you do get a discount off of them.
You get to get about 15% of any PROFIT you make, which in my case amounted to about £1.15 a week, if I didn't make a loss. On top of the lack of money, the only way to keep members coming in is to a) make sure they lose weight, which can entail taking time with them to go through their diet b) making the classes interesting, which takes time planning and c) chasing them up to find out why they haven't been to classes, which takes time on the phone. So, if she hasn't got loads of time to spare, if she can't set up in an area where there's no competition, the chances of having large groups is pretty low.
On top of all that, you have to go to consultant meetings once a month for "training". This entails a bunch of women sitting around discussing how to make the classes grow, new "miracle" foods, or promotions that you're expected to sell.
In my experience, I found Slimming World the organisation were only interested in taking your money and not actually offering much support to help you make more.
I didn't make any money out of it in six months - in fact it probably cost me money.
Edited to add: If I remember rightly, the commission is based on a structure, so you get something like 5% up to a certain level and then the commission goes up in tiers. Either way, you still don't get a lot. It was long time ago.

I'll echo what everyone here has said...
you put an awful lot of effort in especially if you are starting a new class rather than buying an existing one.. If this is only a part time activity and you have a full 9-5 job forget it.. you will not make money unless you are a gifted salesperson and can get by with less than your 8 hours of sleep - if thats the case go sell something more profitable...
They push you to take on more classes and you need to spend an awful lot of time and effort marketing and preparing and doing all the accompanying paperwork - on class nights my ex used to get home about 9 from a 6:30 class then was not finished with stock taking and paperwork til at least 11. They get their cut, with you getting comission on a banded basis, which then has to buy your stock etc - they seem to take no risk.. Oh and your training costs and your startup (buying the franchise).. you need more than 30 people coming through that door every class to make it worth while and only if they buy items from you (food, books etc) do you even being to see a return.
Leaflet drops in january are something I'll never forget helping out with - fricking freezing - her son had a better idea and stayed in playing playstation ;-(
Simes.

a) an awful lot of effort for minimal return
b) if she thinks the idea is to help cure fatties and do good she is wrong. She will be expected to be a ruthless saleswoman behind a put on exterior. Creaming the £4 a session per person won't cut the mustard with the people above...
c) visions of Marjorie Dawes.
