Hey all, thinking of going to Rome with my girlfriend, for a long weekend. Which is the best way to do it? last minute deals with a travel firm or book a easyjet/ryan air flight now and do some looking for hotels? Anyone know of any good website with last minute deals?

I stayed in a suite at the ES Hotel, twas very nice (bigger than our flat at the time). Can't help with the last minute stuff though.

Great city.

Make sure you take a taxi somewhere - knocks spots off anything at Alton Towers.

Book a ryan air flight then taxi to the centre.

We have previously just rented a 2 bed apartment in the centre for not a lot of money, just 50 yards from the Trevi fountain ,so an ideal base for getting about

We're heading there for three nights in June. Living the west country we were pretty limited to Easyjet/Bristol flights but we tracked down a beautiful hotel on Expedia. It's a few quid more but it's right next to the Vatican, roof top open air restuarant, great reviews.

Can't wait, never done Italy before!

Miles better than Paris yes

My advice, don't buy the over-priced bottled water. Drink and fill up from the copious water fountains!

use Ryan/Easy to get there, Terra for the shuttle and holidaylettings for an apartment

or interweb for cheap(ish) hotel room hundreds of them but NO luxuries

try to get one within walking distance of the underground as this is quick / easy / cheap to get to most places. Also try to keep the sightseeing to no more than 3 places a day otherwise feet will suffer and not feel like a holiday (the sightseeing bus is good for an initial lookaround and the ticket lasts 24hrs so if you arrive mid /late afternoon and take the bus early evening the ticket lasts for most of the next day - use it to hop on hop off)

by far better to avoid weekends as so crowded mid week has a tenth of the queues

we went late Jan and the queue to get into St Peters was 10 people on the Friday morning (10ish) and when we went past on the Saturday it was 400 meters long!!!!!
