Hi all

I've just bought a nice 32" LG TV, which has built-in free-view. The problem that I have, is that I cannot see a way of recording a free-view channel with the TV turned off.

AS I used to do this a lot with my old TV and separate free-view box, I find this inconvenient, to say the least.

Am I being dumb, or do I need to re-connect my old free-view box, which seems a bit pointless?

Thanks

Tim

Not sure if the model you have has a twin tuner? I would have thought that if you leav eit on stand by it will record without the screen being on. Pretty useless otherwise. Did you get an instruction book???

Hi, there is a cd manual that comes with the tv, but that doesn't cover my problem. It doesn't record in stand-by, I've tried that already.

Thanks for the reply.

This is a common misconception, when you record you arnt actually recording from the TV in fact you are recording from the tuner that is built into your recording device, so if you buy a Freeview TV but keep you old analogue recorder then you will only be able to record the analogue channels.
There is a workaround but as you have found it only works when the TV is turned on, when you turn the TV off then its tuner turns off also.

The solution is to either hook up your old freeview box to your recorder then you can record from this whilst the TV is off (obviously leave the freeview box on) or get a new recorder that has a freeview tuner built in.

Our TV was supposed to allow digi out put when you mapped the TV for ins and outs. Never quite got it and then of course you turned the damned thing off in error. Solved by buying hard disc recorder with built in free view. This also means I can now watch one channel whilst recording another.
