Hello!

I've posted up something about my latest adventure a little while ago, but I've been so tied up in getting it all going that I lost continuity, so at the risk of boring anyone - here it is again!

Nobody's ever walked from the coast of Antarctica to the South Pole and back before - so I'm doing it with friend and fellow adventurer John Wilton-Davies. To make the trip more interesting, and in the true spirit of the original polar adventurers, we'll be covering the 2,200km on foot and without support or re-supply. Once completed, the walk will also be the longest unsupported polar trek in history.

The last person to get anywhere near completing the journey was Captain Robert falcon Scott in 1912 - he didn't quite make it, but becuase of his efforts, we are attracting a fair bit of media attention as we race to bring the title to Britain before the centenary of his death.

We're using the expedition as a vehicle to launch the Great Heart Challenge. The Great Heart Challenge (GHC) is, in essence, an adventure themed event aimed at school children to help to encourage kids to get up, get active, and encourage them to adop a htealthy lifestyle. The GHC is being promoted through a unique colaboration between us (John and I), and partners in the charity, education, private and public sectors. It's taken a phenominal amount of work to get off the ground, but at last we're starting to take off. The GHC will become visible to the public from June this year and will run as the headline 2010/11 schools event for the British Heart Foundation. The GHC will be launched to around 38,000 schools in the UK this year.

An adult version of the Great Heart Challenge will also be available. The first 'wave' of the adult version will be run in collaboration with Spirit Health Clubs and marketed to their vast national custmer base.

To help make the project successful, in every way from John and I bringing one of the last true polar titles back to Britain to achieving maximum participation in the Great Heart Challenge we need help.

We need people to follow the website, to sign up to the Last Great Challenge facebook page, to spread the word about the expedition adn the GHC as far as possible, to put us in touch with media contacts to increase the visibility of the project, and of course we need sponsors. Sponsors are coming to us in a variety of forms from thse donating equipemtn, services and resources to funding sponsors. We've come up with a few 'set price' sponsorhsip packages which appear on the website.

If anyone in here wants to get involved in ayn way (and no, I'm not just asking for donations - the more people that get involved in the lead up, the more people will get to know about the GHC and the more fun we'll have!) then please do drop me a line.

Hope to hear from you soon

Best of luck - try not to perish in the wilderness.

Will you be creating a blog of your progress? Not sure if it's do-able/practical. Always nice to see some photos etc.

hi!

Thanks... and yes, we will be blogging from Antarctica pretty much every day.

As well as the health and fitness initiative, we've launched an interactive activity based education proramme whihc already has an audience of nearly nine thousand schools, and they're all keen to watch progress.

As well as a blog, or UK admin support crew will be running a forum and there'll be a map showing our progress.

You will love Antarctica, I was down there last year and had a great time. Hard work and unforgiving but quite stunning. Keep your gear weight as far down as you can and don't fall over seals...

Excellent! I'll try not to fall over anything, but the only living thing I'm likely to see for a couple of months other than a few scientists at the SP Station is John!

Where about's were you and what were you doing?

I hopped over from Argentina on an ice breaker. Visited the scientific bases on that side and the usual historic spots. Just went as a photographer/tourist.

Why don't penguins eat polar bears? Because they can't get the wrappers off!

OK, so I just noticed I've been moved by admin to Holidays and Travel. Although broadley speaking one aspect of the expedition is about travel, it's vertainly going to be no holiday! But, as I've shown (I hope), the expedition is about far more than just buggering off to Antarctica for a sponsored walk; it's about encouranging young people to change their lives.

Anyone fancy a traning weekend with us? The more people joining in, the more fun we'll have!
