SMG paddle shift gear change fault

I own a 2004 SMG M3 with 59k (FBMWSH) and appear to have a very intermittent fault.

When changing up with the paddle on the steering wheel, every now and then, nothing happens. It will eventually change up after a couple of pulls on paddle but this is annoying.

Initially I thought I was trying to up change to early (to low revs) but this is clearly not the case as it will go up using the shift stick. The up change paddle feels no different from the changing down one ie excessive wear.

Any ideas or feedback would be much appreciated!

I had this same problem with my CSL. Rang my dealer and they had a look at it, turned out it was the contacts behind the paddles that were failing. They replaced both for me.

Does it do it if you use the knob instead? If not, then the switch on the paddle has had it, not a hugely edxpensive part and common fault

No, just the paddle. Hasn't done it at all today though!

Perhaps a silly question but, are you going quick enoug when trying to change up? Thats the only time I've ever felt like mine has ever hesitated.

Then it is the contacts on the paddle. Common fault and costless to fix, just needs a clean

WD40 (with the red tube attached) spray the back of the paddle/switch area.

This happened to mine a couple of years ago, WD40 & no issues since.
