Afraid this question is the result of a pub conversation but who makes a really good lightweight diesel about 2 litres ish maybe all aluminium? its the sort of conversation us marine engineers have every friday evening on the way home!

Off the top of my head, the only alloy block diesel I can think of is Subarus latest 2.0 flat 4 diesel.

Dont think Ive heard of any others.

Honda, BMW N47 has an aluminium block and head IIRC. Many others too I think.

FWIW BMW N47S 2.0, twin turbo, 203 bhp, 295lb/ft 161kg all up.

Subaru flat four would be good in a sports boat. Nice and low for minimum deck intrusion.

PSA Ford & Jag 2.7 V6 is a graphite composite & apparently lighter than CI. 207BHP in a fairly small package would be ideal in a boat.
