Injury at Dealership
Discussion
Hi all,
Sorry this might seem a bit random, but I'm not really sure if there is a course of action I should take. Also wasn't sure which forum it should go in, so mods feel free to move it.
I was looking around an Audi dealership today with my dad, as he is looking to buy an A6. Anywho, whilst looking at an A4, which was brand new in the showroom, I closed the back drivers door and caught my thumb on a piece of metal trim below the window, which had a very sharp bit on the end, where it hadn't been smoothed off (we checked the front door which was fine. It cut my thumb, and it might not sound alot but its about 2mm deep and 1cm long, and it started bleeding straight away. I quickly walked over to the reception desk and asked the lady if I could have some tissue for it, she was sympathetic and fetched some tissue and offered me a plaster, which I declined as I thought it would stop bleeding. I then went to the toilet to wash the rest of the blood from my hand where it had been holding it to stem it a little, it carried on bleeding and I ended up using about half a toilet roll to try and stop it.
Now, I'm not looking to cause a fuss etc, as I would have done that when I cut it, but its the way it was dealt with that puzzles me. After the receptionist gave me some tissue she promptly returned to her desk to serve a waiting customer, also a salesman who had seem me do it, walked off started working on a computer. I was puzzled as surely if there was a danger that people could cut themselves on one of thier cars, they should take some lengths to stop it happening to anyone else, i.e. locking the car, or at the very least wiping my blood from the back door trim. My mum who was also with us had to speak to her again to show her exactly where it had cut me. It just seemed as though they all ran off and didn't want to deal with the situation.
Sorry for the long winded post. I just want to see if anyone knew what I should have done, or if they should have done anything. Should I write a letter to Audi UK or am I just being overly safety consious in this overly bubble wrapped world we live in?
Any advice would be appriciated. Cheers.
Dan

Hmmm, well I think as it continues to pose a safety risk... I would go back to the shop and see what they do - ask to speak to someone senior. Maybe follow up with a letter to head office.
If they leave it as is and others get injured then they will prob be liable for any claims I imagine.

You cut your thumb & your going to write to Audi UK that you did it on one of their cars. Have you not burnt yourself on a car yet either?
Why don't you wipe your own blood up instead of expecting a staff member to have to do it, for all they know you could have some disease.
Next time ask the receptionist to kiss it better.
I hope you completed the accident book.

What a charming individual you are. I see the baying mob are here already whining about compo claims etc.As far as I see the guy is not asking anybody to hold his hand or pay him money - he seems more concerned that there is a safety issue with a display car. Somebody could injure themselves more seriously, perhaps a child, and the dealership could be unlucky enough for it to happen to one of the compo-claim types who will be onto claims direct.
I think you should have spoken to them at the time and informed them that there was a dangerously sharp piece of trim on the car. I agree that perhaps they should have done more - I would expect them to have locked up the car until they could get somebody to check it out.
Perhaps a phone call to the dealer principal to make him aware so that it doesn't happen to anybody else.

Option 2 perhaps?Seriously, if you're looking at these dodgy foreign cars what do you expect?
Remember all those Japanese tin-plate toys that cut children's fingers off.
Get down to your local Leyland dealer...
Letter to Audi UK? "Piss Orf."
You should give the dealer a call and ask to speak to the main man, called the "Dealer Principal" normally, and tell/remind him that there is a sharp bit in that car. Tell him where it is. And leave it at that.
I'm more surprised that you were offered a plaster - many businesses won't do this as it can count against them in the inevitable compo claim.
