This day in history - pictures...
Discussion
I thought it would be interesting to have a "This day in history" thread, with pictures.
Just post pictures of some event or news from this day in history. Both Wikipedia and BBC have "On this day.." type pages, and there's tons more throught the web. Cool pictures, and perhaps a paragraph of explanation. Let's gogogo!
March 07, 1988:

Operation Flavius was the name given to an operation by a Special Air Service (SAS) team in Gibraltar on 6 March 1988 tasked with preventing a Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) bomb plot. The IRA Active Service Unit's (ASU) members, Danny McCann, Seán Savage and Mairéad Farrell, conspired to detonate a car bomb where a military band assembled for the weekly changing of the guard at the governor’s residence. Although the operation was meant to be an arrest operation, it ended with all three members of the ASU dead.
March 07, 1945:

In Operation Lumberjack, Allied forces seized the Ludendorff Bridge over the Rhine in Remagen, enabling them to establish and expand a lodgement on German soil that changed the entire nature of the conflict on the Western Front.

JET1 has been built with the engine positioned behind the seats. There are air intake grilles on either side of the car and exhaust outlets on the top of the tail. During tests, the car has reached top speeds of 90 miles an hour, with the engine running at 50,000 revs per minute.
The Royal Automobile club recorded an acceleration speed of 0-60 (97km) in 14 seconds.
