Upper steering column play

As per my other thread on the rack replacement, I've got the new rack in and it's removed a lot of the play I had.
What I have found is that some of the play is coming from the top of the column, on the part that runs through the dash pod. I guess it's the UJ in there but can't see without taking it apart. I've clamped the column at the various joints in turn and the rest are all solid.
Has anyone had the same issue?
