Interior light

First couple of daft questions coming up...

The interior light doesn't operate with the doors opening. Can turn it on permanently (two of the three switch positions) or off (the third position). But not with it coming on with the doors.

Any ideas?

Battery doesn't appear to drain excessively so am doubtful it's the relay?

And the alarm turns on OK - assuming it uses the same door switches?

Not exactly a major issue. Thought I'd ask (wait until you see question 2).

First question has to be does that go for both interior lights?

From memory, middle position is off, then one way is always on and the other is timer controlled. If none work check the bulb first.

..but lots off Griff owners pull the relay to stop the whole lot working (heated mirror defeat as well ).

ETA: a hazy memory makes me think Mikes car maybe doesn't have the footwell light? Could be wrong but I think we spoke about it being on the AJPGriff?

Haven't looked at/for the footwell light yet.

Middle position is off. The other two have the light permanently on.

Leave the doors closed for 5mins, then reach in & switch each way, if both come on, either your door switch or timer relay are faulty

Just to let you know you're not the only one, the "fault" was me being a tit

The word "timer" should have been enough - wasn't leaving it long enough before assuming the light was faulty and opening the door again.

All working as it should.

Hi all,

My Chimaera has a similar fault, or is it a fault?

I had no idea about the timer.

Does my Chimaera have such a delay timer relay too?

I replaced the door switches recently as they were definitely faulty, but the interior light still stays on with the switch in the door operation position & after the door has been closed.

I must admit I have not waited to see if it goes out after a delay, how long is the delay.

How long? Just long enough to make you think it's not going to go out Locking the car should turn them off pretty much straight away.

Mine stays on for 1-2mins. I think the switch needs to be towards the front of the car (middle position is off, rear position is on permanently).

It depends on which way round you fitted the lights + which way you connected the terminals (their just single spades)

While I'm on a roll with simple problems made to look hard, does the interior light under the glovebox run on the same circuit as the one in the hood roll?

Can't make that one work and was wondering if it runs from a separate fuse.

Thanks spend.

Changed the bulb for a new one and the contacts look OK. Think I'll go and swap the lights over to see if it's a fault with the light unit itself and will take it from there. At least I know it's not the fuse now

Do check that the holder is wired up the right way. IIR its a constant ground with the switching between constant 12v and the timed 12v.. but they are just 3 spades that are easy to shuffle around
