E61 520D "High rate of Battery Discharge"
Discussion
Hi to all .........edit added Apr 10 ..... disappointed that I got no replies to March 8 . Sorry if I'm boring people with something that has already been sorted ........ here goes again ...... please!
Newcomer to Forum -- very helpful comments on your site, when I Google-ed above Service message. I wonder if this has been solved ???
Just bought Dec 08 520D saloon, with 7.5k mls. Lovely car, with lots of enhancements. Previously had petrol 2000 reg 520i for 8 yrs. Disappointed to see above message and interested in comments already posted.
Car purchased from main dealer. Contacted them by email & phone, observed that it seems to follow a period of use with day-time lights ON ( dipped beams). However, I would expect that the charging rate was geared to accomodate this. I also noticed this on the morning after driving on lights. Like other posters, alert ("car up on a lift" icon) is not displayed every time you switch ON ignition.
Response from dealer -- after some promting! -- queried if I was listening to radio/CD afetr switching off engine. Sounded daft ........
From Forum postings, this is clearly a well known problem -- very disappointing to see, but it shows the value of such a Forum.
In my view, it is either related to inadequate charging rate setting or else there is something causing a "trickle" discharge after switch off.
Any recent updates, please?
