Is ther some trick to removing the gear stick?

Its getting harder and harder to change geat in my Tam, so I thought I'd just bite the bullit ang get the cxlutch chaged out before it decides to stop working altogether, which will no doubt happen at the worst possible time. Anyway, a clutch change means removal of the 'box, which means removing or disconnecting the gear stick. The method seuugester the Varley Pages is the one I used on mu cerb- i.e undoing the 4 bolts arounf the gear stick on the box itself. The problem is that the reverse switch bracket seems to completly obscure the last bolt (front offside bolt). Looking at it from above, I can see no way that a socket or a spanner is going to get near it. I also should say that the bracket onmy 02 Tam does look possibly a little different to the one in Graham's manual. So th other option is to remove the gear stick fromt the collar just above. Sooooo.... the manual suggests that once the little grub screw is loosened, the whole gear-stick/anti vibe assemble sould lift off, but having removed the grub screw entirley, my gear stick still wont budge. Are they all just very tight, or is there something else I'm missing?

The bolt I'm stuck on is the one that can just be seen partially obscured by the reverse switch bracket. The bracke itself is actually held on by this bolt, so a catch 22. I cant get to the bolt without removing the bracket, and I can t remove the bracket without getting the bolt off. Aaaaaagghh!

Cheers Graham, I'll give it a go, but even with the stubby, its still going to be a barsteward to get at.

Should the gear stick not simply lift straight out now that I've removed the grub screw though? At the moment, it doesnt feel like it wants to shift- I thought maybe its ona a screw or some kind of bayonet fitting?
