I bought an 05 E90 320D last week. It has 17” alloys fitted to it with Michelin tyres, how do I find out if they are run flat or normal tyres?
The tyres have no markings to say they are run flats, if they are normal tyres then it’s a result as I understand the cars don’t drive as nicely with run flats. However the problem I now see is that there is no space for a spare, so what do people normally do who have swapped from run flats to normal tyres.
The current tyres are Michelin Primacy HP 225/45/17
A few other things, the car doe not seem any where near as quick as my old 2003 E46 320d, that seemed to have far more torque and also that was great on fuel, on a few trips I managed to average 52mpg on a motorway run, with this the best I have got on a motorway run is 41mpg which seems very low?

Regarding the mpg that sounds very high. Mine will get 50mpg very easy, even at 85 on the motorway. It should also feel lively and quick, I'd get it checked out, something definitely not right.
I've changed to normal tyres which is a major improvement over the runflats. In case of a puncture i keep two cans of Tyreweld in the boot, very common practice and if used the tyres can be cleaned, repaired and reused.

Regarding the mpg figures I worked these out manually, after 375 miles of mainly motorway driving the obc is showing 38.6 mpg. I brimmed the tank earlier and it needed 41 litres which is about 9.1 gallons. 9.1 gallons divided by 375 miles is approx 41 mpg. That's pretty poor considering my 4.3 litre v8 lexus manages 26 mpg on a motorway run.
I have another 600 ish motorway miles to cover over the next two days so will see how it performs. Interestingly with a full tank the obc is showing a range of only 430 miles.
The car was serviced by BMW at the end of feb and has since only done 150 miles before I bought it last week. It's now done about 550 miles since service. Surely if it had problem it would have been spotted when serviced?
Run flats, I can't seem to see any markings on the tyres to say they are run flats so I think it may be worth getting the tyre weld as mentioned above, is this something halfords stock. Is it worth getting a cig powered air compressor too?
