So - currently on a contract with T-mobile, using an old and basic Nokia handset. I fancy moving into the 21st century and like the look of the forthcoming HTC Legend.

I'm assuming the following:

  • The Legend has 'always on' internet connectivity
  • I can simply add unlimited internet usage to my current contract with T-Mobile
  • When I take delivery of my shiny new SIM-free handset I can charge it up, pop in my existing SIM and away I go...
The reason I'm slightly unsure of the above is when I upgraded the lovely Mrs Flook's Orange phone to an iPhone at Xmas, she was issued with new SIM by Orange, and had to use the new SIM to activate the iPhone...

Anyone help please? confused

Not sure about T-Mobile, but you will probably have to get a 3G sim card if you don't already have one. O2 will issue one free on request to their customers so I guess T-Mobile could be the same.

Current phone runs a 3G connection, so guess no worries on that front...is there any other reason I'd need a new SIM?

Sorry about the dopey questions - just very ignorant on this stuff and don't want to drop £300+ on a new handset and then find I need to get a new SIM to use it.

If your current SIM already has 3G then you shouldn't need a new one.

I've done much the same recently, except I need a new SIM because my old one is 2G only. I've taken the opportunity to move away from O2 after nearly a decade because they seem to be aholes. (I phoned up to get a quote for a 3G contract, got something acceptable, then asked for a quote reference so I could go and check the high-street. "No sir, we can't give you a reference. This is a one time offer."

Add data to package, stick sim in phone, make sure you have network settings for T-Mobile to hand in case it doesnt automatically pick them up and you are away.

If you do need a new sim, then T Mobile will send one out to you.

Easy as pie.
