You will get that if the car does a lot of short journeys which at only 18,000 miles i guess it does

It is only head gasket failure that will cause this?
This BS cracks me up. There are many causes of Mayo in the filler cap. Where people get the notion that it meeans HG failure is beyond me. It fking isnt, and its rather rare that it does mean that !!!

when I don't know something I ask a question to find out. It was a valid question, no need to be a tt about it.

Where is it leaking oil from?

Are you sure its engine oil? not brake or power steering fluid?

As the others have said the mayo isnt necessarily a cause for concern, especially in the winter.
Shine a torch into the cam cover, if there is mayo in there then it would be more of a worry.
If you are worried about it take it to a garage and ask for a leakdown test, this will tell you if there is anything wrong with the gasket and piston rings.

I do lots of short journeys in my car and I get a bit of mayo in the oil cap, its just caused by condensation. A longish run should warm everything up and evaporate any water vapour that has built up inside the cam cover.
