Fuel Tank woes

I have had a petrol leak in the V8S. It's been in today, expecting it to be a seal.

However, on cleaning some of the wax from the outside of the tank, it appears the problem may be the tank.

Soooo, a couple of questions.

What can be done?

If the answer to that is buy a new tank, where would you suggest and any idea of the cost.

I had a fuel tank that leaked. AS part of a bigger job my local garage got it repaired by a specialist firm.
When it came back I found it was full of rust ( but didn't discover it till much later).

Anyway, read this post about how I treated the insied of teh tank. This treatment will repair minor leaks too. Also in that post there is a list of prices I was quoted.


BTW I still have the spare tank I mentioned in my post. It may be for sale.

Hi dave, I recently did a thread about new alloy tanks for £200 (no VAT)He will need the old one as a pattern, I tried DC developments and he wasn't that keen on doing another one as it was some time since he last did one I'll see if I can find the post.

Bringing back an old thread...

My tank is definitely going in the bin - it came back from being shotblasted with a little hole in it, and since the area where the hole is is typical of the whole tank, it's not going back on. So, I definitely need a new one! I was just wondering what the outcome of this thread was? Did you manage to source a new tank Dave?

Hiya, I'm useless with anything practical (e.g. turned the radiators off yesterday - plumber round today who needed to use stilsons to undo the valves before he could reduce the swimming pool downstairs - never thought I was that strong).

We contacted the place chris suggested above, apparently the price quoted then was very low, the price now is about £600 (can't remember exactly.

If you contact Paul at Prestige Performance Cars 01664481065 I'm happy for you to discuss it with him, he has sourced an alumininium fabricator who is making one for me.

They are not cheap at all and you are likely to need the sender too.

Also, PM Norman (Gerald-TVR) as he is a good chap and may just be able to help you

I'm happy to tell you the bill details etc when I get them.

HI DAVE , try rustbusters they have a tank cleaner and sealer system straight forward to use and will not dent your pocket quite the same as a new tank used it on mine kev

I have the same problem and have found a guy in Stoke on Trent who makes custom tanks for kit cars and bikes. He will do one using my old tank as pattern for circa £300 in S/S. I can let you have his details if needed.

I've managed to get hold of a second hand tank (thanks to Pistonheads), but I appreciate the offer. Having said that I might somehow manage to put a hole in the second tank, in which case I'll probably need those details after all!
