Cunning revenge
Discussion
Just received this little story in an e-mail. I don't know how true it is, but it made me chuckle....
Employees at a call centre belonging to a major financial institution wrought their cunning revenge when they learned they would be made redundant when the callcentre’s business was offshored. Realising that much the existing IT and telephony hardware would remain in place to control calls within the UK, they set up a timebomb in the form of a list of premium rate numbers which the system would call on a regular basis. As the redundant engineers had also been responsible for checking the phone bills as they came in, it was several months before someone realised that something was amiss – time during which the system had been calling the premium rate numbers at the rate of up to 20 a minute, and as some of the numbers had a minimum charge of £5 you can imagine how much this had cost.
