Is it possible for England to be playing on Sat 3rd July?
Discussion
I've been asked by my girlfriend to do an open air picnic opera thing on Saturday 3rd July. Should be very lovely and a good laugh, I'ms ure.
However, I notice that the winners of match 52 vs 51 and 55 v 56 are playing on the Saturday (day 2 of the quarter finals). I can't quite work out if England progress through whether they'll end up there or on the Friday (or even if I could work it out - it might depend on whether we win or runners up of our group).
Can anyone put me out my misery and tell me whether to book this picnic opera thing or not
Thanks!

if england win their group they will play serbia, australia or ghana in the second round so should proceed to the QFs where they will most likely play France on the 2nd
if England come second in their group, they will most likely play Germany, if victorious then most likely face Argentina on the 3rd...

Winning the group is a MUST if we are to get a relatively easy ride to the QF/SF.Unfortunately, all things being equal, I believe its Brazil in the SF

tony, book the picnic - you won't miss the game
U.S. soccer (god I hate that word) fans are begging to differ. There's a growing optimism stateside that England are very beatable. This view has been aired on many of the soccer programs over there (ie ESPN, ESPN2, FSN etc) and in some sense is justified.
1. They aren't that far behind us in the Fifa rankings.
2. They beat Spain in the Confederations Cup and came VERY close to upsetting Brazil - and these were competetive matches.
I don't think they'll beat us but a draw in the opening game against them is a real possibility - they'll be up for it for sure and we underestimate them at our peril.
Another sign of how confident they are feeling is in the sales of World Cup tickets - This is a real eye opener:
http://www.worldcup2010southafrica.com/
To summarise:
As of the third ticketing phase, managed by FIFA, 2.1 million tickets had been sold for the event and of that number 107,576 had gone to America and England were second highest with 63,835 tickets sold.
Thats almost a ratio of 2 to 1
in favour of the Yanks. We could all be very gob-smacked when the camera switches to the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on 12th June and all you can hear is "USA, USA, USA"And they're only going because they are optimistic about their chances.
ETA: Of course there is always the possibility that a lot of the tickets sold to America are actually for ex-pats from Mexico and other South American Countries who make up a large majority of the (groan) soccer fans over there - not forgetting Spanish, Italian and English fans living over there too.
