I would really like to find a walk in place to buy nuts & bolts etc as I always end up with not enough thread (despite the photos's), wrong heads, etc etc when ordering on line. London and south east area anyone?
The easiest way to prevent this is to buy a set of digital verniers so you can give accurate dims for the bolts you need. That way you can buy with confidence over the phone.I would really like to find a walk in place to buy nuts & bolts etc as I always end up with not enough thread (despite the photos's), wrong heads, etc etc when ordering on line. Mostly need socket head types, but the length of the thredead section is important, most I am replacing have threads to the head but when I order them the thread doesnt go all the way which makes length sizing difficult. Online companies tend to show a generic photo of a "bolt" with thread to head but what turns up is always wrong. Whats more, inline orders are either for huge bags of the things or pricy single's.

There is a shop called Wakefield's, also known as the 'walk around store' on Lea Bridge Road in Leyton (east London). It's a traditional type victorian hardware store with counters of small wooden boxes with everything displayed.
You can purchase the exact number of nuts, bolts, washers etc you need.

try these people, store in Farnham might be too far for you though www.ahc-camberley.co.uk

this is just my area! thanks. You can purchase the exact number of nuts, bolts, washers etc you need.

Apex Fasteners on Ipswich Road in Slough stock almost every screw available.
Probably too far, but an option if the others don't have what you want.
Can I ask what the screws are for? I've been at the wrong end of trying to remove a steel screw from a car, when a stainless steel or zinc plated screw would have save me a lot of times and me whacking knuckles!

Hey
I'm a new member and just seen this post. There's a place that I've used and recommended to others in the past... They are more commercial but maybe able to help and have a large range of all things fasteners.. (removed).. They may be of use for the future for you.
