So, in my barge I have a VHS VCR in the boot hooked up to a monitor in one of the front headrests. Don't laugh, I bought it this way smile

However I don't have any video casette's and occasionally I'll have kids in the back seats and it'd be nice to keep them occupied on longer journeys. So I was looking into 12 volt DVD players but can't find anything online as I'd like it to fit nicely in the area where the VHS player is. The VHS has 3 x RCA outputs and also a port for an infrared remote sensor.

Does anytone have any advice for a replacement machine. it won't be used often, but I'd like it to be neat and tidy. If not a DVD player then perhaps another type of media player or some box that can do freeview or hard drive/media car playing etc? Any advice would be great! As per normal, I'd like to spend as little as possible.

There is that, but I have 12volts in the boot already wired through and since DVD players are £10 in Tesco I figured I could get a DV version for similar price and not have to worry about an inverter etc.

Carputer? Built up using cheap parts and a 12v to ATX converter

Advantage of a computer is that you can have a wifi connection as well smile

Or inverter (ie 12v to 240).

Portable DVD player (usually with a built in screen, around 7") will often have an output to drive a TV through Scart / AV. We had one in previous cars, now it's used at home or packed up and taken with us when we go on holiday, as the current car has a built in unit. You can get them for about £40 now, if you shop around. Benefit being that it can be used out of the car with the built in screen.

Perfect - Thank you - I shall take a look!

Carputer sounds awesome too, but none on ebay (Well one for £600) and not sure where to look for a ready built system but it's cost I would like to keep down.

Carputer. Have a wander about here. There are loads of mods about using Linux etc. Some even interface to the cars electronics.
