Australia this time.

My head is spinning looking at all the stuff on the web.

I really want to go, there is me, my wife and my 2 year old daughter. I'm in IT, with experience in lots of different areas.

I would like to hear from anyone who has done or is considering the same..

I wouldn't. It's full of convicts.

You're right. The bit in the middle isn't full of convicts. That's full of sand. Everywhere else there are convicts.

over half term hols there was a series of tv shows about moving to Oz. most folks who went seemed to do ok, but property seemed more expensive than they expected and salarys lower,

if you havent already have a look at www.britishexpats.com for some further info

Yes, it's OK. I can't fly.

Besides it's Perth i'm thinking about. Nothing too nasty there. I think. Hope.

I haven't lived there, just visited but wages are lowish, property getting expensive and it's become very anti-car lately. On the upside there's plenty of space, but it's largely filled with sand and horrible creatures that consider you a delicacy. Overall if god had intended us to live there, I doubt he would've invented the funnelweb spider.

Go for it!

Aussies are friendly and sociable so they will be sure to make you feel welcome.

Don't put to much pressure on yourself to make it work. Remember to tell yourself to make the most of the experience and enjoy it.

Remember the folks exhibiting at these expos have a vested interest in you deciding to go somewhere (and use their expensive services) so you need to make a judgment about the impartiality of their advice.

The folks that post on expat forums and sites may well have their own agenda too, but this will probably be based on their own experiences rather than commercial pressure

Apart from house prices - the mining boom has made it v.expensive. Also a long way from the rest of Oz, unless you fly.

So I know I'm in danger of actually offering some help and ruining this thread, but I'm in IT (sort of) as well and have been through the whole process to the point where I am an Aussie permanent resident, still in the UK and trying to sort out a job to facilitate the move, happy to give you some advice, it's a complete minefield.

So much depends on your circumstances and what you want to achieve, but I can take you through what I did, it took some time (years), but I think has been worthwhile, as the work I am trying to get would be almost impossible without having visa pre-arranged etc, but it would be much simpler to talk you through it to be honest.

PM me if you like and we can chat through it
