PH seems to help with everything else so I thought I'd seek advice on holiday recomendations. Can anyone suggest from experience a place to fit the following criteria:

We are planning to book a one week holiday over the Easter break. It needs to be somewhere which is more or less guaranteed hot and pretty dry with a maximum flight time 6 hours, preferably less.

We are a family of 4 with kids aged 5 and 6 and our preference is for a villa with a private pool but we would consider a very well appointed apartment with a communal pool if the standard is good. Certainly as an absolute minimum we want a proper living room and kitchenette.

We do like Sharm, but this kind of accomodation is rare here. Our preference would be to be able to walk to a handful of local restaurants.

Travel agents havn't been particularly helpful and PH tends to be pretty handy so thought it was worth a shot!

Thanks

James

How hot are you looking? Rhodes is around 20 degrees and only a 4 hour flight.

We have availability over Easter as we had a last minute cancellation if you fancy it.

Southern Lanzarote and northern Furteventura (Playa Blanca and Correlejo) have the best weather in the Canaries - although almost anywhere there by easter should be pretty good.

Playa Blanca accomadation is mostly 4* hotels and Correlejo is much more biased towards self catering. Correlejo is rather chav infested - think Blackpool in the sunshine whilst Playa Blanca is a little more upmarket. Beaches in Lanzarote are OK, Furteventura's beaches are simply stunning - huge sand dunes just outside Correlejo, lovely rocky coves at El Cotillo and a never ending strip of sand in the south. Fureteventura also has some of the best driving roads I've ever been on.

Las Marismas appartments on the outskirts of Correlejo are in a quiet area modern and very well kept. If you take the half board option you'll find the food is plain but good enough. If you want a treat try the El Toro Brava restaurant in the high street and there's usually a good band in the Rock Cafe every night.

Playa Blanca is very quiet at night. The best hotel we've found there is the Rubicon Place - food there is really good but it's a long way from the resort centre. Papagayo beaches are the best on the island but they don't even start to compare with Furteventura.

Don't expect the bargain price Spain you would have got 10 -15 years ago. Food shopping is now comparable with the UK, Beer in a restaurant will usually be over E3, simple meal for two from E20, petrol is around E0.85/l
Organised excursions are a fortune - hire a car (Orcar is usually cheapest) and get out yourself. Inland roads are absolutely suberb and almost deserted out of towns

Try Cyprus and www.ownersdirect.co.uk hundreds of villas for rent. We've just returned from a week there, we got a 3 bed detatched place with pool for £300.

Just beware it may not be *hot* over Easter, went there a few years ago at that time and while it certainly wasn't cold, sitting by the pool was a little fresh.

Fair commment. It was warm last week but certainly not hot. Probably similar temperature to the Canaries and maybe hotter than Greece?

We were in Playa Blanca last week and the weather was glorious, nice clean beach and pleasant little town, if a bit quiet, but that's what we wanted.

We did Tenerife first week of March and the weather was terrific - even on Mount Teide where at 3000 feet it was still 17 degrees.
