Saw this, in our local cinema, so not 3D yesterday. I enjoyed it, it does not stick to the story realy, but that is what we have come to expect from Tim Burton. Johnny Depp played the Mad Hatter as a cross between Captain Jack and Willy Wonka. Kept breaking into a thick Scottish accent for some reason, possibly because the hare was Scottish? Anyone else seen this yet?

Planning to see it tom. Supposed to be Alice revisiting them after her first visit (the original story) Apparently the different accents were to try and accentuate his madness, I may find this more annoying though, will have to wait and see.

Saw this on sunday night. Thought it was quite good, bit of fun really, and the 3D effect was impressive.

Some of it was quite dark too, don't think I would take my young niece to see it..

Depp did a good job of playing the mad hatter too

Thought it was bloody boring. I think you would have to be into the story to get value out of it.

The Missus and I will go to see it.

Mainly because it's

(1) A Tim Burton film - I like his quirky style and vision.

but (2)

I was a huge fan of American McGee's Alice the video game.

When I first saw trailers for Burton's "Alice" and read that the plot was about an adult Alice's return to "Wonderland" I thought to myself surely American McGee is involved? When I saw he wasn't I thought surely there will be a lawsuit because a lot of the "look" in the trailers could have been copied from the videogame.

Hopefully they are different enough plots and treatments that there is no need for dispute but the core idea does look awfully similar.

Any gamers on here should look up "Alice". It may be 10 years old now but what a great game!

My 5 year old has her eye on this film after seeing the trailers.
Is it suitable for her?

I really enjoyed it, I thought the 3D effects were pretty impressive and I really enjoyed the film.

It is not a dark Tim Burton film, but, it has dark moments I suppose. I am not sure if a 5 year old would be scared or not, I don’t think I would take my niece who is 6, but, I would take my older nephews and nieces.

I would rather like to have a Cheshire Cat for myself, the effects on his fur were amazing!

Do you like other Tim Burton movies? e.g. "The Corpse Bride" or "The Nightmare Before Christmas" etc.

Just out of interest as it distinguishes between whether your view is "Really not for me" or "Really not for anyone"...

I enjoyed it - not his most edgy admittedly, but still worth the price of admission for a few hours of escapism. Looked lovely and again I was pleased that 3D was used to enhance rather than a gimic.

I thought the casting was superb and the girl did a pretty good job for her first outing.

Borrowed from IMDB but this guy summed it up for me :

Disney presents Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland

STARRING

Johnny Depp... as Willy Wonka, if Willy Wonka hadn't been Michael Jackson

Mia Wasikowska... as a winsome young lady Alice who discovers her inner fortitude

Crispin Glover... who doesn't dance, unfortunately

Helena Bonham-Carter... with a big head

Matt Lucas... as two Matt Lucases

Stephen Fry... who does actual voice acting and doesn't just read his lines

Paul Whitehouse... who against all my expectations, still does know how to be very funny

Alan Rickman... who nearly steals the movie, just by doing what he does best

Christopher Lee... who actually steals the movie with just two lines

AND

Babs Mitchell-Windsor... playing a character her actual, real size

I saw this in 3D last night with the OH.

It was her turn to pick the film and I wasn't really looking forward to it.

I've got to say I thought it was a really good film. The FX were really good and the acting was really surreal and over-the-top, which is how it comes across in the books.

Johnny Depp was pretty good and I liked the way he switched into a thick scottish accent when his emotion changed. It gave the character a dark twist that is all Tim Burton.

I even found the fight scene's quite intense for a kids film.

My only criticism was the film jumped about quite a lot and didn't feel so smooth in delivering the plot.

A good film for parents to take their kids to, as there's loads for the kids to enjoy and also dark undertones for the adults.

Plus Alice and the White Queen are pretty hot.

The ones you mentioned were OK, but didn't blow me away. Alice was st central however.

Went to see this today with my sisters.

Thought it was really good. If you watch closely, the Mad Hatters eyes change colour when he's angry, which is also when he speaks with a Scottish accent.

Thought the effects were really good, ending was a bit rushed and stereotypical though, I expected more of Tim Burton than that. But still a very good movie.

One sister is 10 and the other is 12 and they thought it was great.
