I'm REALLY tempted to buy a Jaguar, but want to know can you realistically buy something half nice for a small budget?

Of course - I'd head for XJ40s... you may pay a bit to run them but it's luxury motoring for a fraction of the price of Mr Numpty in his grey plastic-over-cloth Eurobox that cost him £20K on finance and is depreciating faster than the UK...

You could struggle to spend as much as £2500 on an XJ40! They really are cheap at the moment and are lovely cars. I've had mine for years and years and I never tire of it!!

These websites have lots of information and knowledge about the old 'Forty

£2500 may also see you in X300 territory nowadays. These are more fashionable perhaps, and less rust prone than the XJ40. The engine is even more durable (if that's possible). Personally, I prefer the XJ40. For me the styling is sharper and less derivative and the interior feels a better place to be. Many prefer the X300 though.

You can buy a nice Jaguar for a lot less than £2500! However, buy the best you can afford as fixing them can be pricey. Sub £2500 is prime XJ6 1994-1997 territory. Some absolutely cracking cars out there in that price bracket.

The X300 (XJ late 94 to 96/7) is simply the best saloon car the world will ever see.
Buy the best one you can find.

I would say that £2500 is enough to get you into a XJ8 (X308) I have just picked up a

For £2800
The price of fuel heading north as it is just now is only helping brig these fantastic cars down in value but not worth.

What other 65000 mile old car can you buy for 2.8k

My 3.2 X308 cost me £2.9k

It's a 2000 model, totally unmarked and while it's done 140,000 miles, it's been maintained by Jaguar or reputable specialists, so I'm not worried about the miles on it - and if it does go bang, well it's not like I've lost a fortune is it?

So yeah, I'd say £2500 is more than enough!

If you try any, all Jags have a superior ride to most other cars, this involes quite a few suspension bushes, anti roll bars and the like. When you test drive, check carefully for any knocks, bangs, clonks etc. Probably only bushes need replacing but some can be a nightmare to change, as I found out on my XJ-S. Once done it transformed the car though. Also check for rust, not sure about other models but behind the bumpers, trailing arm mounts and footwells are favorite on the XJ-S and can be unexpectidly bad. Good luck, you must own a Jag sometime in your life, great cars.

This looks good for the price. Fairly high miles but full history.

Take £1000 off your budget and you'd have an interesting question, but £2.5k? Easy.

Yeh 2.5k can almost get you a decent XJR!! Seen some nice ones at dealers for 2495. Large cars have taken a hit recently, so llok for one at the top end of you budget and haggle hard.
