I would be inclined to agree. A friend of mine took some great ones over London when we were doing some aerial filming last year. He just (!) had a Nikon VR lens and shot through the windows (the cameraman and pilot wouldn't have been impressed had he opened the door!), but the results were very impressive. I think this is a case of the Emperors clothes.
The vibrations from a heli, as I'm sure you're aware, make some kind of stabilisation fairly important, especially when shooting at night. However, it seems that stabilised lenses are generally up to the job, although presumably (and I've not tried), they do have some limitations.
