Hi. My computer just buggered up and I've had to rebuild it. This means I've lost all the songs that were stored on my computer.

As I haven't downloaded iTunes again yet and haven't synced (sunk?), all the songs are on my iPod (Touch 2nd gen).

Is there a way of transfering the songs from my iPod to my computer? These are not songs that I've paid for (paperbag), so will I have all of the artwork that I've got from google? And will all the song settings be the same (Artist, Album etc.)

Anyway, my biggest concern is getting all of my songs back onto my computer. Is it possible??

USB hard drive kept somewhere well hidden. They don't cost much.

Indeed, I have 45GB+ of music and movies and I make a back-up every time I add an album, I definitely don't want the hassle of replacing that lot if my drive goes bang!

Yup, these threads keep popping up, and seemingly no-one backs up. You'd think people would have twigged on by now.

Until then we will have to keep typing the reply Sharepod every month every time this same thread is repeated.
What would PH be without people backing up their data or getting viruses from porn sites lol

Typical iTunes nonsense. Your ipod should be able to appear as a normal drive and allow you to drag and drop the music files into another folder ......... oh, I forgot, you're locked into the Apple marketing trap. Good luck.

You're not locked into anything. iTunes is organised using a library, and is done from a central location. Hence all your data is on the computer, not like other players that are essentially an external hard drive. The issue here is fkwits who don't back up their data. Remember that not all your music may be on the iPod, and you may have a bunch of movies, TV shows, audiobooks, apps, etc, on iTunes, and NOT on the iPod, therefore iTunes is the important bit for date, as should be the pc in general.

You can blame iTunes if you want, but it just makes you look very short-sighted.

No, I will blame itunes and it makes me a person who hasn't been gullible to all of the Apple marketing. The ipod should be seen as a simple drive containing folders and files that can be accessed as in any Windows or OSX platform by simple drag & drop just like any other file on a HD.
