Even more worryingly from the Telegraph:
Mr Brown confirmed the Budget date as he put his own character at the centre of the election campaign that will follow it, declaring he had the “strength and resolve” to “complete the mission”
"Complete the mission" ??? Should I just phone the IMF now?

Is Alistair Darling's post a public sector "non-job" now?
I too was wondering this. There is utter desperation in the government's actions now. The bond markets are enjoying giving the government (via sterling) a sound thrashing to the point that Brown is barely continent, blurting out public sector pay strategies and budget dates almost involuntarily.
Just try thinking of all the nasty things he can do to before the election to poison the waters, things to make the incoming government make all the unpopular and tough decisions to save the economy. Then when it's back on it's economic feet and national debt reducing they win the future election on unsustainable promises and saying how bad it was under the previous government, then watch as they f
k it all up again, thus the circle of socialism is repeated.

To a large extent, this is what is causing the current run on sterling. Things need doing now and the fact their not being done means the outcome and the extent of remedial actions in a month or two will be even tougher. Hence the run on the pound - think of it as a global vote against the government.Digga said:
