Just curious. But what kits are there new or available already built and 2nd hand for a 356?

I saw some years back called Chesils I think. Don't know much about them
though. Or what alternatives there are.

Cheers.

Chesil were the market leaders for 356 replicas. Based on a shortened VW Beetle floorpan

Original owner sold the business, and two subsequent owners saw their businesses fail.

Original owner bought the company back, and is up and running again.

Pilgrim cars originally made a four-seat version of the 356, based on an unshortened Beetle. IMHO it was hideous.

Pilgrim then marketed a "traditional" 356, based on a shortened floorpan. Was much better, but Chesil still had the edge.

Pilgrim went into administration last year, and the original owner has since revived the company. Not sure if they still make the 356 kit though.

PGO make a speedster - don't think it is a kit though. IIRC, one is/was used on the TV Soap "Coronation Street"

Martin and Walker offer a 356 kit - Have seen a couple of decent examples at the Stoneleigh kit car show a few years back, but I know very little about them.

There are other suppliers, but I can't remember them off the top of my head.

Banham did one too, based on a Metro. It didn't work, though, because the back wheels weren't right. The pictures in their adverts were of a real one. I did have one in my workshop about 10 years ago, but couldn't do anything with it (in an economic context) so the owner moved it on to some Banham specialists (basically a bodywork repair company). Don't know how it turned out, or how many were made.

There is a fella in Downhead Park that makes these aswell. Don't think his workshop is based there though. He has a lovely black one...

Banham Speedster.... [shudder]

I remember seeing one once, and don't know whether it was the ability of the builder, or the quality of the kit, but it was truly awful.

Don't think Banham exists any more does it?
