Goldtrack Silverstone 11th March 2010

Anyone going ?
Weather forecast looks cold & cloudy but at least its dry.
Had a chat to Melinda? I think her name is, apparently there are going to be about 8 cars/people hovering for a ticket. I've not been on track for so long I'm going to get up there anyway. If I can do an hour at the end of the day I'll be happy.
New wheels, tyres, suspension, geometry setup and ready to go....

Thought I wasn't going to get on a first, too many German cars out there but then I saw two Alfa's, I thought if I hover it won't be long until one breaksdown!
So other than being overtaken by expensive mechinery I think I managed to hold on to the tail of a few Caterhams and an Elise. I was behind the Elise on at least two occasions when the rear end did a 360 (I use to have 111S and also did 360s)
Just a couple of grumbles, there was a big American thing with no rear view mirror and the odd dodgy overtaker (without talent, usually ended in an off).
Lovely 997GT3RS's. Can I have a passenger ride next time ?
I stopped at the on-site petrol station for petrol to get me home. I thought the 102octane was the one to go for then I noticed the price & moved on. The previous person had spent £200 just before me on only 78litres (£2.50ish a litre).

Hi Andrew, was a fantastic day for most I think. only one or two reds and mostly great driving. a couple of super fast caterhams were very impessive.
for future reference the lovely lady's name is Melindi.
I hope i was not included in your 'dodgy overtakers group' but know what you mean about the yank tank, it was quite wide.
I am constantly surprised how few people ask for rides and am always happy to scare or entertain a passenge any time but had an empty second seat for all but one session. If anyone reading ever fancies a ride and sees me with an empty seat please feel free to ask.
what were you driving Andrew?
hope you had as much fun as i did!
PANIC

ah yes PANIC, would love a ride, next time I see you I'll pop over.
I was in the Silver Toyota Celica.
I didn't see much of how the Ferrari's went during the day, all four of them were flying past me as well as lots of other stuff. I noticed one looked in race spec so was probably quicker than the other three ? How did you match up to other cars on track ?
That yank mobile just wouldn't back off the throttle. Maybe he was American and use to sitting in a lane.

with the exception of the 550 all other ferraris were race cars on slicks. the scud was obviously much quicker than the 355 and 360 challenge, the 3 others were 430 challenge cars so depended who was driving. the fastest was a GT3 racer and when driven by a professional I could not stay with him. 7 Ferraris on one trackday was awsome for me, one lap as I came up to maggots there was a 355, and 2 challenge cars in front of me all spitting fire, looked amazing. hi Matt, yes was me at Bedford. that is what i brought the car for so snow would have just been a new challenge. quite scary at 6:30 on the M1 at MK though was in 6th under the speed limit with the rear wheels spinning an quite a few occasions. will be at Silverstone again next Friday (Focused Events) so if anyone is there come and say hello.
Neat car, really well driven and i love your number plate!
i was in next garage (red GTI) trying to come to terms with slicks for the first time.
i thought driving standards were pretty high overall, perhaps a function of the high proportion of race cars and consequent low proportion of tourists. However, it was strange to be flashed at by an angry Alfa after i crowded him a tiny bit into the right hander onto the back straight. for a car with a cage, sponsor stickers and racing boards on, he/she seemed to be awfully "sensitive".

It was a little frustrating so much quick machinery on the National but once ths day emptied around 3pm there was some pretty decent space.
The black 430 looked good, have some very close footageof flames into maggots. Couple of others would be better with bigger rear view mirrors but on the whole not to bad consiedering lack of track space.
I was running in the fluro orange Caterham and was amazed at the differnece the lack of stands makes to the pit straight...took a while to adjust.

Was the track open then? I'm there with Focus events on Friday. We are supposed to be doing the full GP circuit but I hear that its being dug up.
I read that other track day companies have offered alternative layouts during March, having to change as "Bridge GP" wouldn't be available. I rang FE last week and they confirmed that Friday will be on the GP track, so will be mightily peed off if it isn't.BJD said:

Tho don't mind the weather tbh, the day is mainly to get an idea of how the track goes for racing there next month so the right layout is more important than the right weather.
