I'll be surprised if Fergie leaves him on for the full 90 minutes. He'll be thinking about the run-in to the Premier league title..

My sentiments exactly - it'd cost us the world cup if he got injured. With
him we must have a strong chance.

He's a bull ... but he was always built like a brick sh*thouse (even at 16).

He is a quality footy player though - just a natural. No wonder he was often coring three goals per U18 game (when he was 14)

Here's hoping no-one steps on his foot again ...

My respect for Rooney has only gone up this season. He has really taken on the responsability and almost single handedly kept united in the title race and the biggest compliment is that United haven't missed Ronaldo or Tevez that much. If hes injury free, he will get more than 42 goals before the domestic season finishes, btw i'm a Norwich fan (my missus supports Chelsea, so i also pretend they're ok)

With regards to England, if he can keep his cool and not get frustrated, he has a real chance of being top scorer, just hope the rest of the team can support him.

He is an incredible talent and will only get better.

He's now 24 and has a lot of experience. On what basis would you expect him to improve?

To my mind he's now the finished article.

Its generally considered that most strikers reach their peak around 27-29. Hes had a storming season so far but lets remember that this is the first season hes reached 30 goals. If he hits 30 again next year and the year after then he will be the finished artical because its consistency that seperates the best from the rest. Take the likes of Henry and Shearer, for a good 4 or 5 years they were constantly at the top of the scoring charts. In seasons gone by, Rooney would score in streaks, so 8 in 7 games for example, then he'd go for 6 or 7 games without scoring, perhaps not always his fault because SAF played him out of position, but even so he would still blow hot and cold, this season its been consistent, now he needs to show it for a longer period than just 6 months.

Hes put a lot of work into improving his game, but there are always things he will want to work on and improve, his weaker foot for example (which is still stronger than a lot of premierships strikers favoured feet). Its the same as in any job, people always find something they can do better, and thise who do strive to improve become the best in world at what they do.

rooney's peak will be earlier than the average player his physique will see to that.

right now i honestly believe we are looking at the best player in the world and he's english.

i just hope and pray that fergie doesnt run him into the ground, manyoo are basically a one man team team right now and he knows it.

He's going to be one of the Greats I reckon. (that's praise from a Scotsman too!)

I also increasingly like the cut of his jib from a public persona viewpoint. He's exhibiting a degree of class.

Nice job Sir Alex! wink

Fantastic player.

And you know, he seems a genuinely nice, down to earth guy aswell. Absolutely top bloke and I hope and I actually think he will stay at Man United for his full career.

Rooney has matured a hell of a lot this season. He's taken all the expectations of United fans and gone one step further. But what i'm most impressed about is his mental attitude, you don't see him lunging in and doing hot headed stuff as much. Maybe becoming a father is the best thing thats ever happened to himsmile

Anyone think, that with the number of headers he's scoring, Beckham has a much greater chance of being on the plane?

A few of his crosses were sublime the other night, the strikers made them look bad (albeit there was little incentive at the time)

I hope Cole gets fit.

I hope Rio carries on improving

I hate what that tit Terry has done, but he's the type of player I like, throw your head at feet, it scares people, puts them off.

I'd be happy with Becks on the right in all honesty. Lennon fit would be a nice option. Walcott all of a sudden showing signs.

Gerrard has had a poor season by his standards.

Exciting isn't it!

I actually think this too.. He's got to the top, and he's going to stay there.

Does seem like a nice person too, and we've seen in his improvement he's very willing to work.

Fergie won't do that - but he will use him as much as he is able to before the end of the season. He also knows Rooney is going to SA & he wants him back fit & able in August so he won't be silly & he never has that I know of.

Capello, on the other hand, showed a lack of judgement by playing Rooney for the full 90 minutes (near as damn it)against Egypt when he had a suspect knee. Silly and pointless.

Indeed.

All these great players though but I'd still like to see them player a bit more together as a team, we always seem to make so many changes even at half time let alone between games, be nice to one solid team with quality substitues if needed. Being spoiled for choice as it were can be counterproductive sometimes in my opinion.

Can only really add to the above, another two goals today, outsanding workrate, great passing, and scores. To say it would be a disaster to lose him to injury this summer would be an understatement.

To be honest I doubt he'd have be in the squad anyway but a torn achilles isn't a nice injury and at his age could almost be career ending.
