Evening,

Just had a quote for a new kitchen floor, need 26 m2 - and the chap has priced me at £30 per sq for labour - regardless of tile price.

Sounds strong to me - anyone have a comparison ( I live in Surrey so expect to pay more than say, estonia)

thanks

Sounds a lot for labour. Around Guildford, a good tiler can be had for £180-£200 a day and I would expect him to do about 6 to 8m2 of ceramic tiles a day. Sounds like you've got a big kitchen (in an expensive house) and he's trying to line his pockets ;-)

Presumably he's included laying ply in that price too.

£200 a day - 8m2 a day - three days (and a bit) £600

vs 26m2 @ £30 = £780

So, possible could be the in the right ball park.

I think these prices are optimistic with the current climate, I'd have thought more along the lines of £20 per sq mtre

Four pints of cider and, a fish and chip supper will usually suffice.

3 days work there.

Work out the day rate from that.

I'd charge about £450 here (Staffordshire)

i am in the trade and i would pay that all day long ...the only proviso
would be it needs to be a good job..
the setting out and laying maybe 3 days, but
just the cleaning, grouting and cleaning again would take the best
part of another day..

I am also in Surrey and about to have 18m2 of floor and 4m2 of wall tiles done, the price for this closer to £40m2. Maybe I live in a really expensive part of Surrey rolleyes

Not sure how floor tiles differ to wall tiles but I've just had:

4m2 floor tile and 19m2 wall tiles completed for £450 with the tiler supplying grout and adhesive

(thats North Norfolk though)
