E46 rear brake pipe

On my 2001 330 tourer the rear brake pipes are corroded and need replacing. After a quick glance I thought that the pipes went inside the car and back towards the front of the car, making it a swine of a job. Looking on the inter web, its seems I may of been wrong and that they actually go up to a tee above the fuel tank, making it a bit easier but still having to drop the tank. Can anyone confirm or has there been a mod.
