Hi i'm looking for some advice before i change in my current car.

I'm driving a mercedes ML 2.7 CDI with AMG badge and extras its done 124k now and i'm ready to trade it in. I was thinking of porsche cayenne but have gone off the idea after talking to a mate of mine who runs a garage.

Now the choice has turned to Range Rover Sport 2.7 or 4.2 supercharged around 2006/2007 plate. I've also found recently an awesome looking 2006 Range Rover Vogue with 51k on the clock with Overfinch trims and accessories.

I would appreciate some feedback on reliability more than anything else as i've struggled with the ML and don't want to change to something with the same issues. I do approx 25k mileage a year so hence need the car to be robust. Fuel doesn't bother me as i have a fuel card and i'm used to the cost of tyres as they are a £120 each on the ML. Anything i should be looking out for as the miles go up? also issues to look for when buying cars with around 28-50k on the clock would be really appreciated.

What would you pick??

Thanks

Personally I think the RR Sport looks way better, in fact is more in keeping with the original RR's lines.

The full fat, is just that. It looks flabby and middle aged and not really a very well penned shape IMO.

As for engines. Well a 4.2 supercharged would be the choice, but only if you are ok with the fuel costs.

And to be fair the diesel is a pretty nice engine. A re-map should see them around 230hp which is more than enough to be fun.

jem - it's for sale at NS car sales and is 06 4.4V8 Vogue and has all overfinch detailing

http://www.nscarsales.co.uk/154501/showroom.htm

seems cheap to me at 26k - going to go and see it on Friday.

Have phoned 4 garages today to arrange to see RRS around the north west and all are selling before i can get to see them!

I would go for the full fat real range rover any day. You will find it a huge improvement over the ML, it will be like going from a tractor to a Rolls in comparison.

That looks good,
Watch out though the ride might be 'Crashy' if they are 22 inch wheels.

Definitely the Full Fat Rangie - vastly more space front, back and boot than the Spurt, much much better ride, nicer car all round.

Bought a black /ivory leather black piping /piano black trim FullFat Supercharged 4.2 to second my 993turbo last week.

Awsome car, lots of space to carry my surfboards, super confortable and quiet at 90mph, sitting in the living room really.

It cleasrly is the RR of 4x4

To give you an idea: just did a full tank over the wkend: 100l @ 116£ and 250 highway miles + 125 London miles

3 words: GO FOR IT

Sorry, for clarification as I am interested in one...250 motorway AND 125 London on one tank?

Or is it 250 motorway OR 125 London on one tank.

Was certainly possible in my Rangie 4.4 V8, so I would have thought it's more than likely in the S/C even given the latter's lower fuel consumption.

Another vote for the full fat RR. Lovely cars - I've got the V8 diesel and it's so comfortable, gadget heavy, quiet, nice ride, nice driving position etc.

In my opinion, the Sport is a bit of a marketing thing and doesn't do it for me. It also doesn't have the two door boot where you can sit and have your picnic.

Much apreciated.

That seems a lot better than my F355.

Both in my Rangie, and now in my Disco3 V8 I average 20mpg with mixed driving - so a 90litre tank will take you quite a long way. Easy enough to get 24 or so on a cruise.

I get 13.5mpg out of my RRS S/C and 10.5 when towing the caravan at 80mph through France.

Range on a full tank is about 270 miles. Most of that is journeys of less than 10 miles mixed urban and dual carriageway/motorway.

If you reckon you are going to get 20mpg then you will be driving reeeeeeeeallly gently.

I avarage 16.4mpg from the OBC.
Mixed dual A road town. 34 miles a day.
But I run on LPG.
Last tank £36 got me 246 miles
My last Petrol fill £60 got 225 miles.
Not an exact science.

Fook. Ours are "only" the standard V8s, but 20mpg on the OBC is borne out by my own fuelling calcs... well okay it's 19.9 on the calcs! Believe me, I do NOT hang around!

YES: i filled up the tank thursday night and it lasted all 375 miles (250 highway London Bournemouth London at more or less steady 90mph and 125 city miles)

NO: i dont thrash it around town, i'm quite gentle with it.
YEAH the OBD read something like 16.9-17l/km over the wkend

I've got the FF 4.2 S/C too, and over 2000 miles of motorways and London traffic have averaged about 17.5mpg. The last tank full, which was a combination of motorway and B-roads averaged just under 20mpg, and I wasn't cruising at 56mph all that time wink
