Good morning

I am curious about the new-ish 3ltr tdi engine and its two flavour 240bhp and 275bhp

Are they both internally exactly the same and it is only an ECU tweak or is it deeper than that?

Thank for your help

Kind regards

Jack

Not expert, but ECU. I have the 3.0d in my Range Rover Sport and it has a different output still.

I think that there is a difference in the Turbos (But I stand to be corrected). A couple of dealers taht I spoke to say that the lower power isa better delivery. I was going to change my A8 3.0Tdi, but couldn't get anywhere near the 42mpg claimed. On the run that I did of 120 miles mostly motorway I got 33mpg where I regularly get 39/40 from the Audi.

TBH I cant reallycomment on the 3.0D as when I left Jag it was only the 2.7D But with the various 2.7's Land Rover, Jag, and the french stuff. All the internals were the same, but turbos, manifolds and injectors were different for each varient/power output.

I would suspect at the very least the turbo as well as the ECU map would have to be different for that ammound of power difference on the 3.0.

Most who I speak to seem to be getting around 35-38 from the higher powered lump. A lot will depend on how many miles it has done as they take ages to run in. Also the ECU learning, if it has been driven differently to your style. My current S suffered this as an elderly couple owned it before & I suspect it was a bit Miss Daisy style, which soon changed when I got my hands on it.

MPG will depend on the diesel fuel used (density, cetane.....).
