Tired tyres

OK, following on from my rantings on the other thread, I sat in my garage for half an hour last night looking at my tyres and (despite there still being life in the old ones) have convinced myself the F1s are knackered (yes dear, they are, honest ) and I need new ones. Have decided to bite the bullet and buy more track oriented tyres, current choice seems to be the good old R888s.

Before I crucify the credit card I have some questions:

Current tyres are 225/35 and 255/35 but looking at Toyo's website they only seem to do 225/40 and 255/35. Is that what you other triple 8 Cerbie boys have?

Any thoughts on the (new?) Proxes R1R? http://www.toyo.co.uk/productdetail.php?identity=p... Seems to be a cross over tyre. Or am I just being a pansy and should just go straight for the 888s? (I do like to use the car a bit over the winter, but pref. not in the wet)

What do you guys pay for 888s/best place to source?

Any other recommendations for track tyres?

Nickers, we get a discount rate on Toyos via being signed up for the Sprint series I believe, can get them straight from Toyo I think, not sure what the discount is but pretty sure it will beat any retailers price. I'm going to get some too but need to decide if am going to get some other wheels to put them on just stick them on the 18's. Graham and Nickccccccc both run 888's on 17" wheels (graham the original RL's and Nick a 17" version of the SP wheel) - this is what I think I would like to do but I do have some old 16" wheels here as well which might work if they are able to clear my enlarged brakes. 2 sets means I can swap around between 888's and normal fairly easily - having said that and speaking to Dean about his, he reckons they are really not that bad in the winter, he ran his to Spa and back remember and it was pretty torrential there, as such maybe should just get some in 18" and stick them on the current SP's.

I did think about getting a second set of wheels just for the track. At first this seems a good (if more expensive) option.

Then I remembered how much I moan when I have to change a bulb/fuse or put more oil in. The thought of having to change 4 wheels sends a shiver down my spine.

I just bought a set of RL 18s that I am going to potentially stick some 888s on.
My Spiders have Toyos but they have hardened and are gripless (Joolz found my car a challenge to keep on the rollers!) - so these need replacing too. (oh and the tyres on my Discovery, and my spare disco winter wheels and on my mini!).
