Do they actually save you money? My last unmetered bill was £220 for the year....

I hate to be the one to point this out to you but it does rather depend on how much water one uses...

Depends how much water you use.

A single person will probably save, a large family probably won't...

Are there no estimates on your water company's website? I'm sure Wessex Water have some tables to give an idea of costs/savings.

Yes, it will save you money. We pay around £300 for a 5 bed house with medium usage (with a meter).

Rule of thumb is, if you have more bedrooms than people, you will save.

let them fit the meter... then get a plumber to fit a bypass valve before your meter, and use all the water you like for free

My bill vary's and has recently gone up to £14 a month (single person) and I know others with similar size bills.

Had my meter nearly 10 years now and before it was fitted I was paying £40 a month! When I contacted Welsh Water they estimated my bills would be around £11 a month and they werent far off smile

I think you'll find, if you have one fitted and you are not satisfied with the outcome after twelve months, then one can revert to an annual charge.

Just had one fitted 3 weeks ago. My water bill has been cut by over half. (Single bloke, out at work all day, occational wash of car, Kids every other weekend, couple of washer loads of laundry and washing the pots once a day!)

My Council Tax is just under £3k per annum, my last water metre bill for just me and the wife, living in our 5 bed house for a 6 months period was £46.24 and sewage 62.99. So for us a very, very big saving, and being on a water metre makes one use water very caringly, so plenty of water buts etc.
