Scenes on tonights News programmes showing CCTV footage of thugs and toe-rags vandalising cars and bullying weak minded people.....

so why exactly do these people have their faces obscured by blurring? Why are their identities being protected? Who is making these decisions to protect these thugs, and why? Are the News broadcasters really that affraid of these cretins? Why protect them when its plain they are breaking the law?

I guess the excuse is 'to ensure they can be prosecuted', but that really is just a cowardly, pointless get out, isnt it? Most of these crimes wont ever come before a jury that might recognise someone from the tele anyway.

I say, un mask these idiots. Or are the broadcasters of this country just too chicken s**t scared of a law suite brought by a low life?

Yes, I believe they want the shows to carry on. Rather than being fined and shut down and possibly going to jail.

Well, since CCTV is invariably of such crap quality, I imagine mistaken identity could be a big problem? If it was guaranteed that the real perpetrators would be the ones who got duffed up, I'd be all for unblurring them. Plus, it'd probably give the little sts bragging rights to their oxygen-thief friends, if they appeared on News at Ten smashing stuff up. With the image quality CCTV produces, it's a wonder it secures any convictions at all.

"Cretins"

A great word, not used often enough these days and much more offensive than "pikeys".

If anyone hasn't seen the 'Harry Brown' film (Michael Caine), the do so. It's a decent person's fantasy come true - wiping out such lowlifes. No nanny social enquiries, slap on wrists etc.

Whilst not the greatest film ever made....it was certainly gripping...and you can't help but watch and recognise the characters being portrayed in society today.

I honestly think we'll start seeing characters like Harry Brown in real life soon, as the Police are not performing their role properly and criminals go unpunished (or not punished enough).
